Open Source Education
TheNewAmericanCodex
An open-source curriculum for raising capable, self-governing humans — from pregnancy through age 18.
Eight pillars. Six life stages. A community of families building something better than what the system offers. Not a school — a codex. A living document for the next generation.
Three Foundations
What We Believe
The Codex stands on three philosophical pillars that shape every lesson, every activity, every conversation.
The Magical Child
Children are unfolding intelligences, not empty vessels. Based on Joseph Chilton Pearce's work, we honor each child's readiness signals and build on sensory learning before abstract thinking.
Tikkun Olam
Repairing the world. Service isn't extracurricular — it's a pillar. Children learn moral courage by doing, not by being told. They leave every place better than they found it.
American Dynamism
Liberty, entrepreneurship, civic responsibility, and making things. The American experiment is an ongoing act of creation — and our children are its next builders.
Pillars of the Codex
Every child deserves competence across all eight domains — not just academics.
Agency & Critical Thinking
Think for yourself.
Socratic method, logic, media literacy, first-principles reasoning. Children learn to question assumptions, evaluate evidence, and form their own conclusions rather than accepting received wisdom.
American Dynamism
Build the republic.
Founding documents, constitutional principles, builders and inventors, free markets, civic responsibility. Understanding the American experiment not as a finished project but as an ongoing act of creation.
Physical & Survival
Be capable in the world.
Wilderness navigation, fire and shelter building, first aid, physical fitness, self-defense. The confidence that comes from knowing you can handle what the world throws at you.
Building & Engineering
Make things with your hands.
Woodworking, electrical circuits, mechanical systems, 3D printing, architecture fundamentals. The deep satisfaction and practical intelligence that comes from turning raw materials into something real.
Software & AI
Code is the new literacy.
Programming as literacy, how computers work, AI literacy, digital citizenship, building with technology. Understanding the tools that shape the modern world — and learning to shape them back.
Food & Farming
Know where your food comes from.
Gardening, animal husbandry, food preservation, nutrition, cooking real meals, soil science. Reconnecting children with the food chain and the land that sustains them.
Core Academics
The fundamentals, reimagined.
Math, science, reading, writing, history — taught through the lens of the other pillars. Academics aren't separate from life; they're the tools for understanding it.
Character & Purpose
Do the right thing.
Tikkun Olam in practice, service projects, moral reasoning, stewardship, doing the right thing when no one is watching. Character isn't taught in a lecture — it's built through action.
